What this guide helps you decide.

  • Choose a UTV for steering-wheel controls, side-by-side seating, and a less physical ride than a quad bike.
  • Current prices run from Rp 1,700,000 to Rp 2,300,000 per UTV, not per person.
  • The guided ride covers roughly 7 km in about 60 minutes, but the UTV route does not pass through Gorilla Cave.
  • Choose Single for one eligible driver or Tandem for one eligible driver and one passenger aged seven or older.
  • No prepayment is needed to send a request; the vehicle, time slot, eligibility, and optional pickup are confirmed through WhatsApp.

You sit in this one. That is the first thing to understand about a UTV, and it changes the whole ride. There is a seat with a back, a steering wheel instead of handlebars, a pedal instead of a thumb throttle, and a roll cage over your head. Nobody has to balance anything.

The Alasan Adventure UTV runs about 60 minutes across roughly 7 km near Ubud. You start on a training track, then the route takes you through bamboo forest, a river section, a technical obstacle stretch, and a mud track at the end. It is the same terrain family the quad bikes ride, driven from a very different seat.

What is the difference between a UTV and an ATV?

A UTV is a side-by-side vehicle you sit inside, with a steering wheel, pedals, a seat back, and a roll cage. An ATV is a quad bike you sit on top of, with handlebars and a thumb throttle, and you steer it partly with your body weight.

The practical difference is who can enjoy the ride. On a UTV nobody has to hold the machine up, nobody gets tired arms, and a Tandem passenger sits beside the driver rather than clinging on behind. If someone in your group is unsure about riding a quad bike at all, the UTV usually solves it.

The trade-off is control. On an ATV you feel the terrain directly and the machine responds to how you move. On a UTV you are steering a heavier vehicle from a fixed seat, which is more secure and less physical. Neither is better. They are different rides.

One route difference matters if you have been comparing pages. The Alasan UTV route does not pass through Gorilla Cave. The ATV route does. If Gorilla Cave is the reason you were interested, read the Alasan Adventure ATV guide instead.

Alasan Adventure UTV prices and packages

There are four Alasan Adventure UTV packages, and the price is charged per UTV rather than per person. Two people in one Tandem vehicle pay one price between them.

PackageCapacityPrice per UTV
UTV 800cc Single1 eligible driverRp 1,700,000
UTV 1000cc Single1 eligible driverRp 1,900,000
UTV 800cc Tandem1 driver and 1 passengerRp 2,000,000
UTV 1000cc Tandem1 driver and 1 passengerRp 2,300,000

Look at the middle two rows before you decide. The 1000cc Single costs Rp 1,900,000 and the 800cc Tandem costs Rp 2,000,000, so the more powerful vehicle is the cheaper booking if you are riding alone. People miss that and pay Rp 100,000 extra for less engine.

All four packages run the same route for the same approximate 60 minutes. The 1000cc gives you a higher-powered vehicle, nothing more and nothing less. Vehicle availability is confirmed before booking, so ask early if you have your heart set on the 1000cc.

Prices are subject to booking confirmation. Review the current rates on the Alasan Adventure UTV booking page.

Who runs the track and who you book with

Alasan Adventure runs the track, the vehicles, and the guides in Bresela. I run baseBali Tours, and I book guests onto it.

No prepayment is needed to send a booking request. What you send is a request, not a confirmed booking, and I come back on WhatsApp with availability, the vehicle, the time slot, and the pickup if you want one. If your slot is already gone, you hear it from me before any money moves.

Should you book Single or Tandem?

A Single UTV carries one eligible driver. A Tandem UTV carries one eligible driver and one passenger, sitting side by side.

Book Tandem if one of you would rather not drive, if you are bringing a child aged seven or over, or if you want two people covered by one price. Book Single if you both want your own steering wheel, in which case you are booking two vehicles rather than one.

The seating is worth thinking about with a passenger. On a quad bike the Tandem passenger sits behind the driver and sees the driver's back for an hour. In a UTV the passenger sits beside the driver with the same view forward. For couples and for a parent riding with a child, that is usually the deciding factor.

If you already know the package and the date, put it through the Alasan Adventure UTV booking page and I confirm the slot and the pickup on WhatsApp.

Choose Single

Best when every eligible participant wants a separate vehicle and their own steering wheel.

Choose Tandem

Best when one person prefers to ride as a passenger, or a parent wants to ride beside a child aged seven or older.

The Alasan UTV track, start to finish

The route runs in a fixed order across approximately 7 km. Here is what happens from the moment you arrive.

You arrive at the Alasan Adventure meeting point and register at the lobby. Equipment goes on, then the guide runs the safety briefing. You complete the training-track session, which is where you learn the pedals and the steering before anything technical. From there the guided route takes you through the bamboo forest, into the river track, through the handicap section, which is the technical obstacle stretch, and finishes on the mud track where grip changes with the weather.

Then you shower, change, collect your things from the locker, and take one selected meal at Cretya Sunset. Most people underestimate how much they will want the shower.

The sequence and duration can shift with weather, track conditions, group readiness, and operations. That is normal for an off-road activity and not a sign something has gone wrong.

  • Register at the lobby
  • Prepare equipment and attend the safety briefing
  • Learn the controls on the training track
  • Drive through bamboo forest and the river track
  • Complete the technical handicap section and mud track
  • Shower, change, and enjoy the included meal at Cretya Sunset

Who can drive and who can ride

The requirements are enforced by the operator, and final participation depends on their safety assessment on the day.

A Single UTV driver must be 17 to 60 years old, in good physical condition, between 50 kg and 200 kg, and at least 150 cm tall. For a Tandem UTV, the driver must still be 17 to 60 and at least 150 cm tall, the passenger must be 7 to 60 years old, and the combined weight must be between 60 kg and 200 kg.

Note the age gap against the quad bikes. The UTV needs a driver of 17 while the ATV allows a solo rider from 16, so a 16-year-old who wants to drive should be looking at the Alasan Adventure ATV guide rather than this one.

Who should skip this one

Pregnant travelers should not take part. That one is straightforward.

Anyone with a serious heart, back, neck, respiratory, or mobility condition needs to disclose it before booking rather than on the day, and the operator decides from there. Nobody is allowed to take part under the influence of alcohol or drugs. And skip it if wet or muddy clothes would ruin your day, because the track is wet, muddy, uneven, and slippery by design.

If a quad bike is what you actually wanted, the ATV track is the other product and it runs a different route. Compare it in the Alasan Adventure ATV guide.

Getting to Bresela and optional hotel pickup

Packages and current prices are on the Alasan Adventure UTV booking page, and no prepayment is needed to ask.

If you are still deciding between the two vehicles, the Alasan Adventure ATV guide covers the quad-bike route including Gorilla Cave, and the Kuber ATV guide covers the other track near Ubud with the 400-metre cave.
