Kuber vs Alasan Adventure: which Bali ATV track should you book?

Book Kuber if you want to ride 400 metres through a natural cave, if you have a 13 to 15 year old who wants their own machine, or if you want the cheaper starting price.

Book Alasan Adventure if you are bringing a child of 5 or 6, if you want to choose your engine size, if a rider in your group is over 120 kg, or if you want a departure time that is not on a fixed two hour cycle.

Both tracks are near Ubud in Gianyar. Both run about an hour to an hour and a half. Both include a guide, safety gear, insurance and a meal. Both offer the same optional private hotel pickup rates, and both cost less than most people expect.

Kuber has the cave people mean when they ask this question. The Premium package rides 400 metres through a natural cave, underground, in the dark, on the machine. The Regular package does not include it.

Alasan has Gorilla Cave, which is part of the standard ATV route rather than a paid upgrade. It is a different kind of feature and a different kind of moment, and it is on every Alasan ATV package.

So the comparison is not cave against no cave. It is a 400 metre underground ride you have to pay Rp 100,000 extra for, against a cave section that comes as standard on the Alasan route. If riding through a long dark tunnel is the reason you are booking an ATV at all, book Kuber Premium and stop reading here.

One thing worth clearing up. You will see the Kuber cave described as 500 metres or 750 metres on other sites, sometimes on the same page that also says 400 metres. The figure I work from is 400 metres. If an exact number matters to you, ask me and I will confirm it with the track before you book.

This is where the two tracks split hardest, and it catches families out.

Alasan takes a tandem passenger from age 5. Kuber takes a tandem passenger from age 6, and a child under 6 is not covered by the activity insurance at all. Kuber may allow it with signed consent from a parent, at your own risk, and I tell every guest the same thing: an uninsured 4 year old on a mud track is not a decision to make in a hurry.

Now flip it. A 13 year old can ride their own machine at Kuber. At Alasan they cannot, because the solo minimum there is 16, so a 13 to 15 year old has to sit behind a parent.

The rule of thumb is simple. Very young child, book Alasan. Teenager who wants their own machine, book Kuber.

Kuber and Alasan both offer hotel pickup as a paid add on, charged per car. Ubud is Rp 400,000, Kuta, Sanur, Seminyak and Canggu are Rp 600,000, and Nusa Dua and Jimbaran are Rp 700,000. Other areas are quoted through WhatsApp.

For a group of four coming from Canggu, that Rp 600,000 splits four ways and costs Rp 150,000 each. For one person it is Rp 600,000 on top of the ride, which can be almost the price of the activity again. Per car pricing rewards groups and costs more for solo travellers.

If you are already staying in Ubud and you have a scooter or a driver, this section does not matter and you should decide on the cave, machine choice and rider ages instead. Because the pickup rates are now the same for both tracks, transport no longer separates them.

Alasan gives you three engines. The 250cc runs the standard route, and the 450cc and 850cc add the handicap section, which is the technical obstacle stretch. Kuber runs one machine and changes the route instead.

Rider weight is the part nobody talks about. Alasan publishes a weight ceiling for each machine: 120 kg on the 250cc, 150 kg on the 450cc and 200 kg on the 850cc. Kuber does not publish weight limits in the information I work from.

If you or someone in your group is over 120 kg, that published ceiling is worth a lot. It means you can choose a machine with a published limit that fits the rider before final eligibility is confirmed, instead of finding out at registration. Message me first either way and I will check before the booking is finalised.

Kuber is cheaper at the entry point and cheaper at the top. Alasan costs more but gives you more machine for the money.

Two things stand out. The cheapest tandem at both tracks is Rp 900,000, so for two people sharing one machine there is no price difference at all and you should decide on everything else in this article. And Kuber Premium at Rp 750,000, cave included, costs Rp 250,000 less than the Alasan 450cc, which is the cheapest Alasan machine that includes the handicap section.

Both tracks price per ATV rather than per person, so a tandem package covers two people for one price. These are promotional rates and they move, so check the current figure on the booking page for your date.

Kuber runs five slots: 08:30 to 09:00, 10:00 to 10:30, 11:30 to 12:00, 13:30 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 15:30. You should be there 15 minutes before your slot.

Alasan runs the 250cc every hour from 08:00 to 16:00, and the 450cc and 850cc on even hours only. That gives the 250cc nine start times against Kuber's five.

If you are fitting the ATV around a booked driver, a checkout time or another activity, the hourly 250cc is the most forgiving option on either track. If your day is open, this section does not matter.

Both packages cover the ride, a guide, a safety briefing and training, safety equipment, activity insurance, a shower, a locker, a towel and a meal. Nothing is left to pay at the end except photos or optional hotel pickup.

Kuber adds a welcome drink, bottled water and a changing room, and the lunch is at the basecamp. Alasan sends you to Cretya Sunset for one meal from a selected menu, which is a nicer place to sit than a basecamp canteen and is part of why people rate the end of that day well.

Photos cost extra at both tracks and are not part of either package.

Kuber publishes a cancellation policy. You can cancel up to 24 hours before the activity, heavy rain or unsafe track conditions mean the booking can be moved, and there is no refund for a no show or a late arrival.

Alasan confirms cancellation and reschedule terms on WhatsApp before the booking is finalised rather than publishing them.

Neither track automatically shuts for light rain. The mud gets deeper and most guests come off a wet track happier than a dry one. What changes in heavy rain is safety, and that call belongs to the operator on the day.

Both bookings work the same way through me. You send a request, no prepayment, and I come back on WhatsApp with availability and the final details. If your slot is gone you hear it from me before any money moves.

Book Kuber if the cave is the point, if you have a 13 to 15 year old who wants to drive, or if you want the lowest price on a single machine.

Book Alasan if your youngest is 5 or 6, if you want to pick your engine size, if a rider is over 120 kg, if you want a start time outside a fixed two hour cycle, or if the meal at Cretya Sunset appeals more than lunch at a basecamp.
